Donna Strickland, an associate professor in the Physics and Astronomy Department of the University of Waterloo. Only the third woman in the history to receive a Nobel Prize in Physics following, after 55 years, Maria Goeppoert-Mayer (1963) and Marie Curie who was awarded the prize in Physics in 1903 and in Chemistry in 1911.
Strickland shares the 2018 prize with Arthur Ashkin and Gérald Mourou for their discoveries in the field of laser physics.
