Meet ICTP Associate Wafaa Khater in the fourth video of the series “Science is Our Common Language”
ICTP Associates Video Series

In addition to celebrating its 60th anniversary, this year ICTP also marks 60 years of its first programme, the ICTP Associates Programme, which was started by ICTP founder Abdus Salam at the very inception of the Centre. The programme allows researchers from developing countries to build and maintain connections with other researchers, both at ICTP and elsewhere, by giving them the opportunity to regularly spend time at the Centre during their associateship. The Programme thus intends to offer a solution to the sense of isolation that scientists working in developing countries often experience, to fight brain drain.

The Associates Programme's 60th anniversary will be marked by a three-day event that is taking place from 1 to 3 July 2024. As the event is approaching, ICTP is releasing the video series Science is Our Common Language, featuring some of the current associates.

The fourth episode in the series is dedicated to Wafaa Khater, an associate professor and the Dean at the faculty of science at Birzeit University, West Bank, Palestine, whose research interests are in high-energy particle physics, the phenomenology of models beyond the Standard Model, the violation of CP-symmetry and the physics of the Higgs boson.

Before becoming an ICTP Senior Associate, Khater was a Regular Associate between 2014 and 2019. She also coordinates a collaboration between her home University in Birzeit and the ICTP Physics Without Frontiers programme for master’s students and is a member in several organizations that focus on the role of women in physics and science such as OWSD, the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World.

Meet her in this new video:
