What is eJDS? And who can apply?

What is eJDS?
  • A free document delivery service for articles in physics and mathematics, offered by several leading Publishing Companies - subject to the conditions established by each Publisher.

Who Can Apply?
  • Any scientist from eligible countries. If your country is listed in the eJDS main page, then you can apply and be registered. Otherwise, we regret you can’t.

Which Are the Eligible Countries?
  • Those authorized by the Publishers; in general, low-income or lower-middle income countries.

Which Journals Can I Use?
  • Again, check the list in the eJDS main page. Select your country and see the Publishers, and the titles, that you can access.

How Do I Get the Articles?
  • First of all, make sure that the titles and years you need are available to you.
  • Request the articles using the eJDS interface - see How to use eJDS for help. You will receive them as attachments to e-mail messages - good for low bandwidth.

How Can I Change My Registered e-Mail Address?
  • Send a request directly to ejds@ictp.it , and we will change it. Keeping your e-mail updated is important, since you need it to log into eJDS and to receive the articles.

Do I Need to Re-Register Every Year?
  • No, your registration does not expire.

If I Am Registered, Can I Use the ICTP Library eJournals from Home?
  • No. There is no relation between eJDS and the ICTP Library collections.

How Many Articles Can I Request?
  • 3 each day, 12 per month and 100 per year. Each time you receive an article, your remaining quota is indicated in the e-mail message.

How Do I Recombine the eJournal Files with Extension .pdf.00# ?
  • PDF files that are larger than 1 Mb are split into parts, for an easier delivery via e-mail. They still count as single requests.
  • Recombining them may seem complicated, but it is not. Just use the following commands:
MS-DOS or WINDOWS or SIMILAR operating system(s):
      copy /b file_xxx.014+file_xxx.013+...+file_xxx.001 file.xxx
Linux or other Unix or similar operating system(s):
      cat file_xxx.014 file_xxx.013 ... file_xxx.001 > file.xxx
Note: It is important to list the split parts in decreasing order.
      Other operating system(s):
You can use a binary copy program or a binary editor to join the separate parts.

Can I Tell My Friends About eJDS?
  • Yes, the service is open to any scientist from eligible countries. Spread the news.
